The Science-Raft platform provides a reliable, pressure tolerant foundation for subsea deployment in research environments. Its controlled ascent profile, acoustic command capability, and air powered lifting strategy make it well suited for instrument recovery, sensor deployment, and temporary mooring support. By removing end lines while maintaining predictable retrieval, the platform enables research operations in areas where traditional buoyed systems are restricted or undesirable.

The SMELTS Science-Raft™

The SMELTS Science Raft™ module is built around a dual vessel configuration that supports extended battery life and increased system endurance. The expanded internal capacity allows integration of data logging systems, environmental sensors, and acoustic telemetry hardware while maintaining structural integrity and serviceability. Designed for repeated deployments, the Science-Raft prioritizes durability, modular access, and compatibility with multiple acoustic control options.

Custom and Integrated Applications

Beyond the standard module, SMELTS offers fully configurable Science Raft builds tailored to specific oceanographic and geographic missions. Systems can be equipped with listening devices, temperature and depth sensors, acoustic communication hardware, and mission specific instrumentation. Each configuration is developed in collaboration with research partners to ensure that power capacity, buoyancy characteristics, and deployment profiles align with operational requirements.
